AS A FORMER expat resident of Paris, let me begin by saying how proud I’m sure everyone is at the news that Charles Kushner, Jared Kushner’s ex-con father, has been confirmed as Ambassador to France.
Thanks, and I agree! Their speed and precision in creating chaos is jaw-dropping. And their corruption knows no bounds. We have to stick together to combat this national nightmare. 👊🏻
The ambassadorships to Paris, London, and Berlin are among the most critical in U.S. diplomacy.
I live between Paris and Berlin and still remember Richard Grenell’s time in Berlin—it was a disaster. He acted more like a Trump spokesperson than a diplomat. When he finally left, CBS called his tenure “tumultuous.” That sums it up.
The idea of Charles Kushner being posted to France is just as alarming. It risks real harm to the U.S.-France relationship.
Beth, your work continues to be essential. The fact that you lived in France for so long gives you a unique outside perspective on what’s happening in the U.S.—and it comes through in your writing. Please keep going.
P.S. Thank you for adding your perspective. Americans don’t get coverage of a point-of-view like yours—on the ground and politically aware of the nuances of what improper and damaging appointments like this mean.
Thank you, Ralph. 💙 Yes, my years spent in France definitely added to my global perspective and gave me international experience with one of our closest allies. It’s also important for us to know and understand how the rest of the world feels about what we’re doing. Sorry for the new ambassador.
Can the T administration get anymore corrupt and/or dangerous? I’m afraid the answer is yes. Thanks for keeping us informed!
