Great article. I'm a Liberal woman born in Philadelphia and educated there, in Boston and most recently, Kentucky. I have always known that Liberal Southern women exist. Not only were many of the Black women in the Civil Rights movement Southern but there were women like Ann Richards, Molly Ivins. Even Hillary Clinton was once First Lady of Arkansas.

When Republicans basically hijacked the White Evangelical church, and used abortion issue to paint an image of Democrats as "baby killers", Southern liberal women were driven underground. However now the far-right has gone too far for conservatives, independents, and liberals. A great awakening may be happening in the US. People are beginning to recognize the fear mongering and the engineered culture wars for exactly what they are: the last gasp efforts of the privileged to hold on to power.

The Southern Liberal woman exists. There's you and the women I've met in places like Nebraska, Kentucky and North Carolina. The challenge now is for Liberal Southerners to reach out to their family, friends and neighbors and convince them that the rest of us are not their enemy. It will be difficult to convince the women who have always benefited from the status quo.
